Overview

Pre-registration for this program closed on 1/3/25. To register after this date, please note tuition adjust to on-site prices and is only available by phone at 323-442-2555.

This course offers a review of important and timely topics in the field of perinatal medicine. Based on a review of the literature, input from our own expert faculty, and analyses from past conferences, we are proud to offer a comprehensive program with topics including: evidence-based guidelines and standardized safety principles for managing cervical length abnormalities and preterm birth; disparities in maternal health; fetal growth restriction; effective management of shoulder dystocia; and trauma informed care. In addition, evidence is examined to set a practical, clinical approach to antibiotic management, diabetes, and labor induction. Valuable insights are provided into various mental health conditions in pregnancy and postpartum. Lectures by faculty from the Keck School of Medicine of USC and distinguished guest faculty from the Thomas Jefferson School of Medicine and Cedars Sinai Medical Center outline controversies, discuss recent developments, and suggest recommendations. Participants have direct access to the speakers and ample opportunity for intensive question and answer post-lecture discussions.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Assess current literature regarding the management of shoulder dystocia.
  2. Formulate a practical plan to manage preterm labor.
  3. Describe and incorporate a treatment plan for diabetes in pregnancy.
  4. Apply practical tips to thoroughly assess and manage fetal growth restriction in pregnancy.
  5. Describe a practical approach to work-up of anxiety and depression.
  6. Assess the controversies surrounding maternal mortality.
  7. Construct a practical algorithm for the management of trauma in pregnancy.
  8. Describe the risks and treatment strategies for lower cesarean section rates.
  9. Describe strategies to increase work-life balance in obstetrics and gynecology.
