Overview

The clinical care of patients with thyroid disorders continues to change and develop. The USC Peter A. Singer Thyroid Symposium offers an essential update in the management of thyroid disease. We will present key topics focusing on the current state of thyroid medicine, using didactic and panel sessions along with audience questions that incorporate evidenced-based strategies and forward-looking perspectives, emphasizing practical solutions to complex clinical scenarios. In this 2026 edition, we will highlight key areas for specialists and general providers alike, from key aspects of new national guidelines to selecting the best imaging; from managing thyroid emergencies to right-sizing thyroid cancer assessment in older patients. Whether the clinical scenarios are straightforward or complex, this symposium intends to provide up-to-date solutions to complex clinical problems and enable providers to offer more personalized care and improve outcomes. This year, the Thyroid Symposium will again be a hybrid program, offering in-person or virtual attendance as suits the needs of our participants.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Integrate new and modified recommendations from current guidelines for various thyroid conditions.
  2. Distinguish the diagnostic criteria and interventions for thyroid emergencies.
  3. Examine the evidence of treatment of Graves’ disease with long-term methimazole therapy.
  4. Assess blood test and imaging results to inform treatment decisions for hyperparathyroidism and thyroid cancer.
  5. Identify medication-causes of thyroid dysfunction.
