Overview
This program was created and named in honor of Dr. Jorge H. Mestman, a dedicated physician, teacher, and mentor to many for more than 40 years and going. His significant contributions to the field of endocrine in pregnancy continue to shape how we practice today. His philosophy of excellence in patient care and his values of integrity and collaboration are the foundations of this symposium.
The goal of this program is to provide a comprehensive and current update in the management of endocrine diseases as related to pregnancy, a unique and challenging time in patients’ lives. Management of endocrine disease during pregnancy has become increasingly multifaceted as new evidence-based management strategies emerge.
This program presents standards of practice as well as forward-looking perspectives representing the most current state of endocrine medicine in pregnancy. The talks focus on recent advancement and recommendations in the management of Type 1 Diabetes, including the role of continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, management of Type 2 Diabetes in women of reproductive age, intrapartum glucose management, pregnancy considerations after bariatric surgery, osteoporosis prevention and treatment and the connection to pregnancy, management of prolactinomas, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer, preconception care for patients with thyroid conditions including Hashimoto’s Disease and Graves’ Disease, and fertility options for transgender patients.
Presentations include evidence-based medicine and expert clinical experience along with panel discussions from audience questions.  The goal of this symposium is to help inform practice decisions in an era of complex clinical challenges in the care of endocrine conditions as related to pregnancy.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply clinical pearls to caring for patients with Type 1 Diabetes regarding insulin requirements, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors
  2. Become familiar with new medical therapies for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and how to manage them in women of reproductive age
  3. Examine the unique challenges for caring for patients with prolactinomas and panhypopituitarism to best optimize care prior to, during, and after pregnancy.
  4. Counsel and manage patients with thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer in pregnancy
  5. Conduct preconception counseling with patients with thyroid disease including Hashimoto’s disease and Graves’ Hyperthyroidism
  6. Describe prevention and treatment options for osteoporosis and relationship to pregnancy
