Overview

Lymphedema is a progressive, chronic condition that affects a significant number of cancer survivors but also many in the general population. There is no true cure for lymphedema, but it can be managed with appropriate medical, surgical, and therapeutic approaches. Unfortunately, many patients receive inadequate treatment, are unaware of treatments available, and lack resources on where to seek help.

The multi-disciplinary approach to lymphedema and lipedema allows patients to receive up-to-date treatment options, self-management techniques, and appropriate diagnostic testing for additional treatment plans.

The symposium has been designed to educate providers and allied health professionals on the diagnosis and treatments available for patients with lymphedema and related disorders. There is also the option to examine a variety of wound care disorders, treatment considerations and treatment practices. Between the two concurrent programs highlighting lymphedema and its related disorders and wound care and limb salvage, attendees can broaden awareness on a multi-disciplinary approach to improve patient and functional outcomes.

Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Outline the diagnosis and treatments available for patients with lymphedema and other related disorders.
  2. Discuss the roles of a multi-disciplinary team and their contributions to improved patient and functional outcomes for patients with lymphedema and other related disorders.
  3. Identify gaps in clinical knowledge and assess ways to improve our clinical expertise.
  4. Identify barriers or risk reduction opportunities for wound care patients.
