Overview

On-site Registration Fees:
$1,149: MD/DO
$1,049: NP/PA/APP/RN/AH

The 49th Annual USC Diagnostic and Therapeutic Skills in Internal Medicine course is designed especially for internists, family physicians, generalist physicians and allied health professionals who care for adults. This four-day course provides participants with a series of interactive lectures by experts spanning a wide array of contemporary and important topics for primary care practitioners and special, more intimate, roundtables in which participants engage our faculty experts with questions arising from their own practices.

Lecture presenters use an anonymous electronic audience response system to promote active learning among participants and to enable group reflections on case studies and challenging clinical questions in real time. Participants will be able to attain new and practical knowledge for integration into their clinical practices to improve patient care and patient care outcomes.

Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Adapt current guidelines and evaluation strategies to diagnose and treat common issues in cardiovascular medicine.
  2. Interpret diagnostic tests and determine treatment approaches for pulmonary and sleep medicine problems in primary care.
  3. Address gynecologic and women's health issues in primary care.
  4. Apply the latest evidence in the management of diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis and other common problems in endocrinology.
  5. Construct effective interventions for pain and non-pain symptoms and address issues related to physician assisted death.
  6. Use the latest evidence to screen for common cancers.
  7. Provide evidence-based approaches to mental health, fitness program prescriptions, the assessment of cognitive changes in the elderly and approach patient care as a trauma informed physician.
