AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.50 hours)

This module sets forth uniform requirements and minimum standards for the use of moderate sedation for therapeutic, diagnostic, and/or surgical procedures performed within Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital. This module assists the credentialed provider by providing guidelines for the ordering, assessment, delivery, and monitoring of adult patients receiving medications for the purpose of procedural moderate sedation, while minimizing the potential for associated risks. This module does not apply to pain management procedures, emergent procedures, patient controlled analgesia, patients receiving sedation to better tolerate intubation, or administration of central nervous system depressants to control seizures. This module does not apply to deep sedation in the ICUs nor does this module apply to pediatric patients (age 13 and under) as these patients must be cared for by anesthesia providers.

1. Differentiate between the categories of responsiveness, airway, spontaneous ventilation, and cardiovascular function for mild sedation, moderate sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia.
2. Integrate into their moderate sedation practice the use of appropriate and required equipment and emergency support as necessary
3. Distinguish six different airway tests to determine airway assessment to avoid potential future airway compromise
4. Identify which patients might benefit from an anesthesia consultation

The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California designates this Enduring Material activity for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

In the event of course cancellation by conference organizers, all registration fees will be fully refunded. USC will not refund any travel costs incurred.
