Overview

Our comprehensive epilepsy program is designed for healthcare professionals who manage the care of patients with epilepsy. This one-day course provides an overview of complexities of modern epilepsy care, including diverse etiologies of epilepsy, practice settings, and comorbidities.

We will also review modern therapies for epilepsy refractory to antiseizure medications, which include surgical management and treatment of epilepsy with stimulation devices. Some aspect of emerging research will also be presented.

Participants will attend a series of interactive lectures by expert USC faculty and invited speakers along with case presentations. Participants can attain and integrate new, practical information into their clinical practice on managing and improving outcomes in patients with epilepsy.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify when to refer patients to a Level 4 Epilepsy Center.
  2. Assess if a patient is a candidate for epilepsy surgical workup.
  3. Know various treatment options for epilepsy.
  4. Identify when to consider genetic and autoimmune causes of epilepsy.
