Overview

This program reviews the current state-of-the-art for breast cancer management, highlighting the key components of multi-disciplinary treatment to include oncofertility, breast pathology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology. The format of this program consists of lectures by international experts in their fields.

Over the past year, advances in clinical trials have demonstrated the utility of antibody-drug conjugates, molecular detection of residual disease, and downstaging surgical management of the axilla. These developments, along with data on resistance to endocrine therapy, updates in the use of artificial intelligence in breast cancer detection and diagnostics, therapy targeting the HER2 axis, and breast cancer risk in patients having gender affirming surgery, make individualized management decisions increasingly important in treating patients with breast cancer. Newer radiation therapy treatment strategies and clinical trials in radiation oncology continue to evolve. These breakthroughs allow personalized breast cancer treatments to maximize benefits and minimize treatment toxicities.

The symposium focuses on advances neoadjuvant adjuvant hormone therapy, new hormone receptors in breast cancer, surgical management of the axilla, clinical trials in radiation therapy, oncofertility, the use of identifying circulating tumor DNA in the blood after treatment, and evolving strategies in HER2-positive breast cancer.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of novel diagnostic tools for breast cancer including cDNA and AI.
  2. Assess the risk of breast cancer in patients undergoing gender-affirming care.
  3. Explain the importance of fertility preservation during breast cancer treatment.
  4. Discuss appropriate use of ADCs and HER2 directed therapies.
  5. Identify the controversies regarding the role of radiation therapy in DCIS.
  6. Assess decision-making process in surgical management of the axilla.
  7. Incorporate the evolving role of clinical trials in radiation therapy.
  8. Define the role of neoadjuvant and novel endocrine therapy.
  9. Recognize an evolving role of Androgen and Glucocorticoid Receptors in breast cancer.
