Dr. Matsushima is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Southern California. and practices as an attending acute care surgeon at Los Angeles General Medical Center, a high-volume Level 1 Trauma Center and large country hospital. He is the program director of the AAST Acute Care Surgery Fellowship who has mentored numerous trainees including medical students, residents, and fellows. He also takes a role of the Associate Director of Research and has mentored many international research fellows from all over the world including South Korea. His research interests include diagnostic modalities in trauma, endovascular hemorrhagic control, and emergency general surgery in pregnant women.
