Mark F. Lew, MD, received his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington DC, where he also served his Internship in Internal Medicine. He completed his Residency in Neurology at Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center and his Fellowship in Movement Disorders at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN), American Neurologic Association (FANA) and International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders (FIAPRD) and holds Board Certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Dr. Lew joined the faculty of the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 1991, where he now holds the position of Professor of Neurology, Director of the Division of Movement Disorders as well as the Co- Director of the Anenberg Center for Biomarkers in Parkinson’s Disease and other Neurodegenerative Disorders. At present, he is also the Director of the Movement Disorders Clinic at Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center. He also holds the Joseph P. Van Der Meulen Chair in Parkinson’s Disease Research in honor of Robert Pasarow.
Dr. Lew is currently focusing his research efforts in developing new tear-based bio-markers for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. He is also investigating new pharmacologic treatments for Parkinson's disease and dystonia. He is a Participating Scientist of both the Parkinson's Study Group and the Dystonia Study Group and is on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Musicians with Dystonia Program. He has also directed the dystonia clinic at the USC/LACH since 1991.
He is an author on more than 135 peer reviewed articles on PD, dystonia and other movement disorders. He has served on the Board of Directors of the USC-CRO and as a member of the Center for Human Studies Leadership Group for the USC CTSI. He served as the Vice Chairman in the Department of Neurology from 2004 - 2022.
He has served as a member of the Editorial board of Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders. He is an ad hoc reviewer for Neurology, JNNP, International Journal of Neuroscience, Movement Disorders and Movement Disorders Clinical Practice.
